Some announcements for this week:

Oct 1 and 2 General Conference

General Conference is available via Dish Network/BYU TV; Broadcast at the Joliet or Naperville Stake Centers; BYU TV/lds.org streaming on the internet... It's a good idea if you're going to watch the live streaming to go to the website early in the week because they often update their systems between conferences and if you wait until the first session is starting it can take awhile to get your computer updated...
Please contact Lienna if you are interested in watching conference, but not sure of the best way to view it.



Oct. 6 RS Temple trip. Meet at the church at 8:45 am to carpool to the 10:00 am session. Please RSVP to Lienna.

The Primary is compiling a list of willing substitutes. Even if you are unable to substitute for both hours, you can do one hour (during Sunday School or Relief Society). There is a sign up sheet in the RS binders or you can email Heidi Miller, the Primary President.


The lesson this Sunday was given by Sister Lisa Anderson who is called as the representative for the Addiction Recovery and Healing Program. (It was such an amazing presentation I asked her to summarize it for me so that you can get all the great information and feel the spirit that radiates from Sister Anderson and the purpose of this program.)

The Addiction Recovery and Healing Class meets every Thursday night at 7 PM in the High Council Room of the Joliet Stake Center. You may enter the room through the stake offices or we have our own private door off of the parking lot right into the High Council Room.

Our class is for those who are struggling with addiction, family members of those struggling with addiction and for people who have had things occur in their lives which have prohibited them from moving forward. We stress that our class is for addictions and for HEALING. You do not need a recommendation from the Bishop to attend. You may bring a friend. If you are under 18, you need permission from a parent and need to bring an adult with you to the class. You may attend if you are not a member of the church. We strictly adhere to the principles of confidentiality and anonymity. We only know our participants by their first names and we do not know the nature of their addictions or trials. We use a manual called "A Guide to Addiction Recovery and Healing" which was written by members of the church in recovery and follows the AA 12 steps of recovery with gospel principles and action steps added.

There are many kinds of addictions: alcohol, drugs, tobacco....but also, internet use, shopping, food, poor self esteem, exercise, TV, emotional childhood baggage, co dependency, etc.

This calling has changed our lives as we are following the 12 steps ourselves and reaping the benefits. The book is a guide to repentance and the atonement. We have never understood the Atonement like we do now. The presence of the Savior is overwhelming at our meetings. We have learned how much the Savior loves everyone no matter what and that only through Him we can we overcome our shortcomings and our pain and grief.
